Current Projects of The Wole Soyinka Foundation
A Retreat for Writers/Scholars/Visual Artists
The Wole Soyinka Foundation’s flagship program. Our retreat allows artists to continue their projects in an environment conducive to creative realization while being surrounded both by other artists and the Ijegba Forest. An optimal approach to inspiration.
Ijegba Reforestage Arena
The Ijegba Reforestation Arena is intended to not only construct more housing for the artist residents but to embrace the environmental elements by planting more forest systems that are native to the forest’s ecosystem. In the spirit of creating a sustainable peaceful environment for both the residents and the forest, the project was altered to include solar panels in place of the generators that previously powered the remote foundation grounds. These solar panels will provide energy to not just the foundation but the surrounding town as well. This portion of the project is still in progress and is scheduled to be finished by 2020.
